B1a. Contribution of air pollutants deposition to soil contamination.
B1b. Geochemical characterization of agricultural soils.
B1c. Hydrological and hydrogeological characterization.
B1d. Human exposure and health assessment.
B1e. GIS inventory of environmental conditions.

MEANS INVOLVED: collection of data existing in the agro Litorale Domitio-Agro Aversano NIPS area and drawn-up of a geo-database in GIS environment.

B2. STRENGTHENING BIOREMEDIATION OF CONTAMINATED SOILS

Responsible: CIRAM ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it )

B2a. Isolation and biotechnological selection of putative biodegrading bacteria strains and/or consortia from microbial community of contaminated soil by organic xenobiotics and preparation and application of formulates in situ.
B2b. Bioremediation improvement by white-rot fungi inoculums in open field conditions.
B2c. Assisted phytoremediation with compost amendment and Trichoderma inoculation of energy crops.

MEANS INVOLVED: 3 pilot-scale fields (3-4000 m2) will be used for defining the technical protocol for agriculture based bioremediation protocol. The test sites have already been identified by the majors of Castel Volturno, Trentola-Ducenta, and Teverola who pointed out them to CIRAM. For demonstration purposes, the project could use a further site (a private 3300 m2 agricultural site located in Acerra, polluted by metals from compost and industrial sludges spreading), where bioremediation program is already started in 2009.
The compost used in pilot scale fields will be furnished by the Salerno municipality, by the Commercial Center Campania (Marcianise, CE) and by TIRSAV Life+ project (Cilento, SA).
